Urgent Eye Care – What To Do When We Are Closed
Eye problems don’t always occur during normal opening hours. Some eye symptoms need urgent advice or assessment, even in the evening, overnight, at weekends, or on bank holidays.

When should I seek urgent eye care?
You should seek urgent eye care advice if you experience a sudden change in your eyes or vision, particularly if symptoms are new, worsening, or affecting only one eye.
Some eye conditions can progress quickly and, without prompt treatment, may result in permanent sight loss.
Symptoms that need urgent attention
Seek urgent advice if you experience any of the see symptoms:

Sudden loss or significant reduction in vision

A red eye associated with pain, light sensitivity, or reduced vision

Eye injury or trauma, including foreign bodies or chemical splashes

These symptoms may be associated with serious eye conditions and should not be ignored.

If Parkhurst and Co is closed and you need urgent eye care advice, please use one of the following services:

Call 111 for urgent advice and clinical triage.
They can assess your symptoms and direct you to the most appropriate local service.

Eye Casualty or A&E
Attend your nearest Eye Casualty department or Accident & Emergency (A&E) immediately if you experience:

What if my eye problem is not urgent?
Should I call an optician or NHS 111 for an urgent eye problem?
If your symptoms are mild, long-standing, or not worsening, it is usually safe to wait until we reopen.
Examples of non-urgent concerns include:

Glasses adjustments or repairs

Long-standing dry or irritated eyes

Contact lens aftercare without pain or vision loss
